Because of a fellow Oppo's comment... What projects have you had in the past?

From Jay Lauer’s comment on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :

Hey man, congrats on the purchase. And congrats for taking the dive on a project car and being a doer. I’d way rather Oppo were full of people that took risks and tinkered with project cars.

So, I thought I’d revisit some of my Project Car Hell history... Not in chronological order, and definitely not during the most painful parts of it...

My old Fiat Spider...

My second Volvo 245. I should’ve kept this one. :(

Kinja'd!!!

And here’s my first 245, in front of my first 740 and my first 740 wagon.

Kinja'd!!!

My first two 740s, together.

Kinja'd!!!

The Volvo that started it all, right below.

Kinja'd!!!

My first car... 1993 Nissan Sentra, that I swapped over to SE-R suspension, SE-R wheels and Tsuru headlights/grille.

Kinja'd!!!

The reason I’m “DancesWithRotors” is because of this FC3C... Another one I shouldn’t have let go of, but tuition was more important than the RX7 at the time.

Kinja'd!!!

B13 Sentra, number 2... Paid $200 for it, drove it a while, then traded it for the Volvo 740 that’s pictured behind it.

Kinja'd!!!

The 740 project I picked up for a winter beater, that I ended up selling off to get a ‘65 Oldsmobile.

Kinja'd!!!

The ‘65 Oldsmobile 98 that was in and out of my life pretty quickly. It was still a fun ride, though.

Kinja'd!!!

And finally... My 940 wagon, with my former project Amazon. The 740 I had at the time isn’t pictured here.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m not counting my current Dynasty as a project yet, because nowhere near enough on it is broken/needs improvement for it to be considered a project. So, what have y’all had as projects?

Somehow, you manage to rock the “beard and moccasins” look very well.

My projects-

Kinja'd!!!

German cars are always ongoing projects, even when they’re running well for a while.

1966 Land Rover Series IIa SWB: As done as it’s going to get, probably, though such a thing is never really done (fuel gauge sending unit, oil pressure gauge, and several other things engaged in fuckery at the moment).

1959 Lincoln Capri - needs new glass, a less stuck engine, and new rocker panels.

1963 Ford Ranchero - needs me to complete rebuilding large portions of the body from lolrust, a rebuilt engine, and general reassembly.

1966 Land Rover

You’re braver than I am, and I had my Fiat try to kill me, twice. (Once when the left rear wheel passed me on the highway, and again when the driveshaft decided to grenade itself on the highway...)

I haven’t had a German car, yet... Though I’ve thought about an E38 750iL....

Current project. 1987 Peugeot 205 CTI. Yes, there are two Volvo Amazons, a Volvo 264, a Jaaaag XJ and a Citroën DS and CX visible in the background. And some crummy Renault we don’t have to talk about. Other than the Peugeot none of those cars are mine btw.

1986 E30 325e: Was a 600 dollar track/drift car between 6 people. Ended up it getting crashed into a curb. Found out how untrustworthy people can be, and how people can misuse money without us keeping tabs on people. Fuck group projects.

1985 Series III LWB ex-MoD. Just starting out. Getting a new galvanised chassis built right now, which will be ready for April. Then it’s off to the shop to do the chassis swap and new suspension and brake/fuel line all-round, and new secondary fuel tank.. After that it’s all up to me, and there’s plenty to be getting on with.

Oppositelock - Stuff is going on

1971 Mach1 Mustang with a 351W.

It was older, rusted but could be driven. It was awesome! I bought it for cheap and later sold it for cheaper due to some issues.

My first issue was I bought it after I got back from Afghanistan in 2002, so I had surplus cash. I was then sent to the next war...for 2 1/2 years. The car languished. I offered to pay a buddy who was unemployed, but a good mechanic to work on it for me. He accepted. I sent him a check for his time.

2 1/2 years slowly go by...he always has an excuse as to why he can’t put on parts, change something or just show up to kick the tires. The day before I get back from Kuwait, he shows up at 730pm to change the brakes...in the dark...with no flashlight. (Sidenote, my cat also died the same day)

Our friendship ended shortly later and I sold the car at a loss. That thing was a beast to drive and I remember it for being a fun project car and not to get involved with friends/money.

My first car was a project car. It was the old “if you can fix it, you can have it” from my dad so in order to have my very own ‘72 Torino I did my very first engine swap. After that I didn’t have the time, money, or room until I picked up my current project car, a ‘71 Camaro.

In the picture with the fiat, you remind me of a smaller action Bronson.

This was my first car, a decrepit but nevertheless exhilarating 635CSI. Not the most responsible decision, but it was a lot of fun. I hope to own another some day.
